This album “Bindle” is an international hobo’s musical journey across land, sea, and time, a collection of songs that showcase Old Salt’s fascination with an array of folk music traditions and celebrate the adventure of knitting them together. You’ll hear sounds and lyrics, both original and traditional, on a broad spectrum of themes from life and love through loss, adventure, death, social and environmental justice.
The name “Bindle” refers to the cloth bag tied to a stick which is slung over one's shoulder; memorialized by its use among a US-American subculture of migrant workers called “Hobos” and stems from the early 20th century. The bindle has come to symbolize an adventurous spirit, hard work and a transient lifestyle. It begs such questions as, “if you only had what you could take with you, what would that be? What significance or value would those things have?” Stories and songs weigh less than nothing but live rich lives well beyond our own. They can inspire us to walk a new path, comfort us when we’ve fallen, show someone that they are loved and validate us when we’re victorious. And what is one of the things that songs and stories do best? travel.
With Bindle we hope these songs travel to you well and maybe even take you on a journey of your own, large or small.
